The Leap and Innovation of China's Rare Earth Industry
The tiered extraction theory and its industrial application proposed by the rare earth team led by Academician Guang-Xian Xu have been hailed internationally as the "Chinese Impact" within the rare earth community. This innovation has guided a comprehensive revolution in China’s rare earth separation technology and industry, enabling the country to transform from a major rare earth resource nation into a leading producer and user, boosting our international competitiveness in the rare earth sector.
Industrialisation of Gas Separation Technology
Professor You-Chang Xie's team has successfully developed internationally advanced high-efficiency adsorbents by utilising the principle of spontaneous monolayer dispersion discovered during fundamental research. They have also created a complete set of engineering technologies for pressure swing adsorption (PSA) oxygen production and carbon monoxide separation. The establishment of Peking University Pioneer Technology Co., Ltd. has positioned them as leaders in the PSA oxygen production and CO separation fields, consistently ranking first in market share for several consecutive years and generating significant economic and social benefits.
Research and Development of Power Batteries
Our college is a pioneer in the research and industrialisation of lithium-ion battery materials, having achieved large-scale production and application of cathode materials such as lithium cobalt oxide, ternary materials, and lithium iron phosphate. Notably, in the realm of lithium iron phosphate, the team independently designed and built an automated production line at world-leading standards, becoming the first to realise large-scale production and application of lithium iron phosphate cathode materials, thereby making a significant contribution to the development of China's electric vehicle and energy storage industries.
